Faerie Folklore

Do you want to know a Faerie secret? Read on to find out…

Twas very, very long ago in days no longer sung,

when giant stood about so high and pixies all were young…

The Queen of Faeries said one day “I’m tired of honeydew!

So hasten now and mix for me a cup of something new!

It must lift the drooping spirit. It must heal the wounded heart.

It must bring the smile of happiness and bid that tears depart.

It must make the young grow younger, and the old no longer old.

It must make the poor contented, and the rich forget their gold.”

Now you can just imagine how the pixies far and wide

came hurrying and scurrying with things to be supplied.

First they brought a useful cauldron, which some witches had for sale.

And the nixies brought sweet water from the Falls of Dryadvale.

Then they took some Hawthorn leaves as the first thing to infuse,

and they added Lemon Balm as an antidote for blues.

For the young they brought the Pea Flower, and Rosebuds for the old.

For the rich and poor, Calendula, which is just as good as gold.

When it boiled, they cooled and poured it, so the ancient story goes,

and to the queen they brought it in the chalice of a rose.

She sipped, delighted! Then she cried “I issue this decree:

The cup you have so deftly brewed, I christen Fairie Tea!

So when you see the faerie folk at home in Dingle Dell,

all sipping something dainty from their cups of Heather Bell,

you will notice they are happy as good faeries ought to be,

and that’s because they always drink their famous Fairie Tea.

Secret Recipe for Faerie Tea:

  • 3 TBSP Hawthorn

  • 3 TBSP Lemon Balm

  • 2 TBSP Butterfly Pea Flower

  • 2 TBSP Rosebuds

  • 2 TBSP Calendula

Mix all the herbs together and store in airtight container. When ready to make tea, boil a kettle of water (never use microwave to boil water, it kills the magic in the water molecules!). Fill a reusable tea ball infuser with approximately 1 TBSP of the pre-blended Faerie Tea and place into your favorite mug. Pour the boiled water over the tea ball and steep for at least 5 minutes.

Faerie pro-tip #1: Don’t fill water all the way to the top of your mug! Leave a little space for the best part… fresh honey! Faeries LOVE honey and sweets!

Faerie pro-tip #2: Make a big batch of tea by steeping 8 TBSP of dried tea blend in approximately 64 oz. hot water for at least 15 min. Add honey to taste. Serve while warm to a crowd or store in the fridge for a refreshing cold tea you can sip on for days!
